Stellenbosch Admissions points table for Cambridge International school-leaving qualifications

Stellenbosch converts Cambridge International grades into a percentage to bring the admissions score in line with the NSC/IEB calculations. SU takes the relevant 5 subject grades (eg 4 AS grades and 1 IGCSE grade) and assigns a percentage to each, as in the table below. Add these and divide by 5.

Here are some examples of the aggregate and subjects required per faculty for specific courses at Stellenbosch:

Humanities faculty- Bachelor of Arts when applying with AS levels or A levels

  • University Exemption with 65% average
  • Language requirements will be satisfied by meeting the exemption requirements
  • If Socio-Informatics is taken as university subject, Maths E on A-Level or Maths D on AS-Level, or C on GCSE/O-Level

 

Engineering faculty when applying with A levels or AS levels

  • University Exemption with 70% average
  • English first language E on A level or C on AS level or C on GCSE/O-level. English second language D on A level or C on AS level.
  • Maths D on A-Level or Maths B on AS-Level
  • Chemistry AND Physics E on A level or C on AS-Level

Most faculties of the University of Cape Town award points to each Cambridge grade on a sliding scale. Most faculties of UCT credit 6 subjects.

Combine at least: three A Levels plus three subjects which may be IGCSE or AS Level OR              four AS Levels plus two IGCSEs OR three AS-Levels plus one A-Level and two IGCSEs. Double your points for Mathematics and English.
